John and George Holding had 10-12 workers and several horsemen who felled the timber in the Chase and brought it down through fields known as 'Little and Long Stocking to Wood Road (now Wood Street). The timber yard was on the site where the garage and now Thomas Rippin Close is off New Road. There was also a saw pit and a carpenter's shop.
