The Mayor of Kettering, Cllr Keli Watts, is undertaking a bike ride around the boundaries of the Borough to raise money for charity and is urging as many people to join her as possible. She has told Geddington.net: “My charities are: The Knibb Youth Club in Montagu Street – the members of which do a fantastic amount for the youth of the Borough and The Ronald MacDonald Childrens’ Charity. This is a global charity, but also very energetic in the UK. It raises funds to acquire accommodation near hospitals and hospices, so that the family unit can stay together.”
Ms Watts is an American who has lived in the UK for over 35 years and who worked for MacDonalds for several decades before retiring. Upon becoming Mayor, she felt that the Ronald MacDonald Charity was a natural choice for her to nominate as one of her own charities.
“The Borough Boundary Bashing Bike Ride is a throwback to the medieval ‘Beating the Boundaries’ that many of our villages still do. (Brigstock did their Boundary Beat just a week or so ago.) Kettering Borough’s boundary covers fields, rivers, private properties and gullies. The route will be as close to the boundary as possible, but as they will be on bikes they will always be on a road. The start and finish, going north on an anti-clockwise direction, is from the beautiful medieval Eleanor Cross in Geddington and we hope that it will attract those keen bikers as well as family members and help to raise funds for two very worthwhile charities that help many members of the community.”
