Yes, it was time for that great village recycling event again.
Villagers were up and about early on Saturday morning, setting out tables, gathering bags of unwanted items from the backs of cupboards, garages and sheds. The weather, as always, was rather unpredictable, but it didn’t put off those on the hunt for a bargain.
This year there were 100 stalls including those along New Road, Newton Road, Queen Eleanor Road and Skeffington Close,as well as those in the village centre.

Committee member Jackie Binley had to rush to print off extra maps for our visitors and, for most, the rain held off long enough to ensure about £800 in funds was raised for the Friends of the Church. Jackie is delighted that so many took part and quietly popped their fivers through her letterbox to support the maintenance of the village church.
Other charities benefited too as people took the opportunity to turn their unwanted items into funds for Kettering General Hospital, The Alzheimer’s Society, The British Heart Foundation and many others.
Some bargain hunters plan their route, check out what’s on offer and return to buy; others go for a more impromptu approach and simply buy as they go! The more cautious set aside a budget and consider each purchase carefully.
Whatever the style, it’s a great village event. With neighbours out and about, there’s time for a chat over the bartering , a chance to catch up with visitors who pop in for the occasion and an opportunity to discover that on someone’s stall there’s the very thing you’ve been looking for.
Whether you are upcycling, or recycling; whether it’s old tools, an electric fan, fresh scones or even a latin grammar book you are after, you can be sure to find it at the Great Geddington Garage Sale and, as happy bargain hunters returned home laden with their purchases at the end of the afternoon, you can be sure there’ll be another Great Geddington Garage Sale next year!
