The Geddington Allotments were full of creativity, humour and plenty of personality recently as local residents took part in a Scarecrow Competition organised by Corrine and Martha.

With entrants building and displaying their own homemade scarecrows at the allotments on Grafton Road, the event attracted a fantastic range of imaginative creations – from traditional scarecrows to well-known characters.

Judging took place at midday, with Jackie and Gordon Binley given the difficult task of choosing the winners from a strong field of entries.

The Winners

1st Place – “Big Bad John” (by Pete)
Gordon said he “loved the detail” that had gone into the winning entry.
2nd Place – “Jim” (by Ron’s dad)
The judges particularly praised the accessorising.
3rd Place – “Where’s the Mouse?” (by Nick)
Chosen for being both funny and realistic.

There were also several other memorable entries on display throughout the allotments. One notable scarecrow that narrowly missed out on the top three was Ron’s “Spongebob Squarepants”. Ron privately suggested that Jackie and Gordon may simply have been “too old to know who Spongebob was!”

A big well done to everyone who took part, and thanks to Corrine and Martha for organising such a fun community event.
