The Geddington, Newton & Little Oakley Parish Council met on 14th April and 12th May 2025. Here are some key highlights from both meetings:
New Councillors Co-opted
At the May meeting, six new councillors were unanimously co-opted: A. Williams, G. Storey, A. Storey, J. Nolan, E. Gibson, and G. Johns. This influx of new councillors will hopefully bring new energy and perspectives to the Parish Council. You can see an updated list of all councillors on the Parish Council page.
Thank You to Long-Serving Councillors
In April, tributes were paid to departing councillors John Padwick and Claire Buckseall, who served 26 and 20 years respectively. Their tenure saw major developments including the playground, car park extensions, footpaths, and flood alleviation works.
Stonepit Land & Youth Club Lease
The Parish Council continues discussions over the Stonepit land leases. The Youth Club had until the end of April to respond regarding their lease, but no reply had been received by May. The Council will now ask if they are prepared to negotiate. Meanwhile, GVFB reached agreement in principle over their lease subject to final amendments.
Tree Damage & Legal Position
A resident’s claim relating to a tree branch damaging property in Queen Street is ongoing. The Council has clarified that any formal claim must include proof of negligence. A Freedom of Information request about the tree inspection is being processed.
Village Maintenance
- Car Park Fencing: Approval has been reconfirmed to replace the broken fencing near the car park. A contractor has been contacted to carry this out.
- Recreation Field Fence: A £895.20 quotation to repair broken fencing by the river Ise has been accepted.
- Footpath Overgrowth: Bushes on New Road are blocking wheelchair access. The responsible resident will be contacted.
- Speed Sign Visibility: A 30mph sign on Stamford Road is obscured by bushes and in need of cleaning – NNC will be informed.
EV Charging Points
Efforts continue to explore EV charging points at the Village Hall. The Parish Council is arranging for talks from three organisations to understand the costs and feasibility.
Local Environmental Concerns
- Flooding in Stamford Road: Still under discussion with Highways.
- River Blockage at Newton: The Environment Agency and Boughton Estates are being contacted.
- Collapsed Church Wall (Newton): The Church is contacting the Diocese to take responsibility for repairs.
