Concerns are mounting at Geddington Cricket Club after a series of unexplained molehills have appeared on the pitch.
Geddington’s historic cricket ground has been thrown into turmoil this week after a sudden and unprecedented infestation of moles. The groundskeeper arrived on Monday morning to discover a landscape pockmarked with molehills, leaving the usually pristine pitch resembling what one local described as “a badly ploughed field.”

Concerns quickly turned to accusations, as suspicions mounted that the infestation is not a natural occurrence but a deliberate act of sabotage – with fingers pointing firmly at Geddington’s long-time sporting rivals, Brigstock.
A Rivalry That Runs Deep
Geddington’s cricket pitch has long been regarded as one of the finest in the county, drawing praise from visiting teams and officials alike. However, some believe this reputation has sparked jealousy in neighbouring Brigstock, whose own pitch is known more for its ‘rustic charm’ than its playability.
“There’s no way this is a coincidence,” said a member of the First XI (who would like to remain anonymous). “Brigstock have always struggled to maintain a decent surface, and suddenly, just before the season starts, we’re knee-deep in molehills? It stinks of foul play.”

Suspicious Circumstances
While mole activity is not unheard of in rural Northamptonshire, experts are baffled by the scale and speed of the outbreak. Geddington groundskeeper Mark Toseland, who has maintained the pitch for over 60 years, was the first to raise the alarm.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said. “Moles are normally shy creatures, but these ones are working like they’ve been given a mission. It’s almost as if someone’s placed them here.”
Further fueling speculation, an empty wooden crate labeled “Live moles, handle with care” was found discarded near the boundary line, along with a delivery address of “The Green Dragon”. “It’s nothing to do with us,” claimed Brigstock’s club secretary when questioned about the crate, though many remain unconvinced.

Calls for an Investigation
The Geddington Cricket Club committee is now calling for a formal inquiry into the situation, with some members even suggesting contacting the Northamptonshire Cricket Board to intervene.
“We demand answers,” added our anonymous source. “If Brigstock is behind this, they need to own up. We always knew they preferred tractors to cricket bats, but turning our pitch into a ploughed field is a step too far.”
Despite the chaos, the club groundsman remains determined to restore the pitch before the start of the season. “I’ve got my traps, I’ve got my shovels, and if need be, I’ll sleep out here to make sure those little blighters don’t take over completely.”
Absolutely Terrifying
In a disturbing twist, we asked AI to imagine what a cricket-playing mole would look like – and the outcome is absolutely terrifying!

For now, the mystery remains unsolved, but one thing is certain – Geddington’s rivalry with Brigstock has entered an entirely new chapter.
