The January minutes of the Geddington, Newton, and Little Oakley Parish Council are now available. Key topics discussed included:
- New Co-Options: Two new councillors, Brenda McCraith and Lindsey Walker, were co-opted onto the Parish Council following a recent recruitment article in the Newsletter.
- Highways and Flooding Updates: A tour of Geddington with Highways officials resulted in commitments to repair potholes on Grafton Road, improve road markings on Queen Street, and install additional drainage on Stamford Road to address flooding issues. Further investigations will take place to assess blocked drainage systems and water flow.
- Defibrillator Training: A local resident has volunteered to provide training sessions for Newton and possibly Geddington, after difficulties in securing a First Responder.
- Stonepit Land Leases: The Parish Council reaffirmed its decision to offer a maximum seven-year lease to the Youth Club, with an option for a rolling seven-year renewal if requested. The GVFB lease is expected to be signed following their AGM.
- Budget and Precept for 2025/26: The precept will remain at £30,000, with potential funding available for an outdoor gym if a grant is secured. Parish Council reserves are expected to be around £21,000 at the end of the financial year.
- Electric Vehicle Charging Points: The Council is considering installing EV charging points at the Village Hall car park at no cost to the Council. A village newsletter article will seek residents’ views, and research will be conducted on similar schemes in other parishes.
- Planning Matters: The Council objected to a proposed development on Queen Eleanor Road due to concerns about impact on a listed building, inappropriate roofing materials, and parking issues. They also opposed a planning application for a new dwelling at Cobley Lodge Farm.
- Flooding Concerns in Skeffington Close: The Environment Agency will investigate drainage issues under the road, while discussions continue about responsibility for maintaining surrounding land.
