The Geddington Green Fair, part of the UK’s Great Big Green Week, transformed St Mary Magdalene Church and its surroundings into a vibrant hub of sustainability and community action.

The Great Big Green Week is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. Events took place across the country from 8^th to 16^th June, including ‘Geddington Green Fair’ on 8^th June.

The event brought a wide range of local community organisations and small businesses to St Mary Magdalene Church and many visitors came along out to find out more.

The Save Weekley Hall Hood campaign had a stall inside the church.

Outside the church, Brightwayz hosted cycle repairs and security marking, as well as the popular cycle smoothie-maker. Trained members of GVFB gave e-cargo bike rides around the centre of the village. Thanks to those locals who donated unwanted bikes – these will be used by Brightwayz in local community projects.

Free e-cargo bike rides were available to anyone wanting to experience what is clearly the future of village travel.

Inside the church, there were craft activities, Fair Trade and eco goods available to buy, along with information from Natural Ise, and books on conservation. Local community groups with stalls included Save Weekley Hall Wood, Hedgehog Lodge Rescue, Amnesty International, Stronger as One Northants, Kettering Green Party, ‘Landscape not Industrial Park’, Waste Knot and Geddington Brickyard Garden.

Although the main focus was about nature and sustainability awareness, the Green Fair also raised over £350 for our eco projects. It was great to see so many people in and around the church supporting this event. A big thanks to all who helped with the organisation.
