Geddington Cricket Club is set to play an important part in a new inclusive cricket initiative for young disabled people, and the village can be proud to see the club involved in such a positive community scheme.
With support from Lord’s Taverners, Northamptonshire Steelbacks in the Community is bringing its Super 1s programme to the local area, offering free cricket sessions for young people aged 8 to 25 with physical or learning disabilities.
The scheme is designed to promote healthy lifestyles, build confidence and develop cricket skills in a welcoming and supportive environment. Weekly coaching sessions are free to attend and will also provide opportunities for participants to enjoy friendly competition.
Initial sessions will take place on the following dates:
- Thursday 16, 23 and 30 April – Great Oakley Cricket Club
- Thursday 7, 14 and 21 May – Geddington Cricket Club
It is fantastic to see Geddington and Great Oakley helping to host this programme and bringing an inclusive sporting opportunity right into the heart of our community.
The Super 1s initiative, funded through the Lord’s Taverners, has been created to ensure that young people with disabilities have the chance to take part in cricket, make friends and enjoy the many benefits of sport.
Permanent sessions are also available at:
- Monday evenings – Northampton County Cricket Ground
- Every second Tuesday – Pemberton Centre
