Two recent quiz nights at The Star Inn have once again brought the community together for an evening of friendly competition while raising money for good causes. With packed teams, tricky questions and a few dramatic tie-breakers, quizzers helped support both Kettering Lions and the Geddington Brickyard Garden. Quizmaster Jackie Binley reports on the action.

Last night was the Star Charity Night, with the Geddington Brickyard Garden as its charity. Thirteen teams took part, with all of them moaning that the picture round was hard (“Famous Squares”)! I have to admit that it was hard – I must have been drinking when I did that round! Apologies! The next picture round will be much easier, I promise!
The quiz raised £210.86 for the Brickyard Garden. Thank you to the team that organised an excellent raffle and gave a perfect speech.
In third place with 78½ points was The Charity Team (Brickyard Garden). Well done. In joint first place with 79½ points were Loose Women and BBJS. BBJS are certainly on a winning streak!
The tie-breaking question was: In miles per hour, at what average speed does the Moon orbit the Earth? Loose Women wrote 4,500 mph and BBJS wrote 20,000 mph. The correct answer was 2,288 mph, so Loose Women won.

Gosh, it was busy last night at the Star Charity Quiz, with everyone trying to win the prestigious trophy! Sixteen teams took part in the quiz, with 117 quizzers competing.
The charity last night was Kettering Lions, a very worthwhile cause.
BBJS was leading in the first two rounds. I knew they had improved because of the constant chanting of 80s songs during their winter curry training. You see, it pays off in the end!
The joint winners were Stoity Twange and BBJS, both with 88 points. Second place was NFN with 86 points, and Old Bags came third with 85 points.
The tie-breaker question was: Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro is a statue of an outstretched Christ. What, in feet, is the statue’s finger-to-finger arm span? Stoity Twange’s answer was 40 feet, and BBJS’s answer was 120 feet. The correct answer was 92 feet, so BBJS were the winners!
The raffle raised £314 for Kettering Lions, an excellent amount.
