The Samuel Lee Charity
With over 300 years’ experience of helping fellow residents in a huge variety of ways, it might be thought difficult to imagine how else this Charity can engage with the village. However, 2025 will see a new method of helping the youngest members of the community.
Any child born after 1st September 2025, to a Geddington or Newton mum,
will be eligible to claim a one-off payment of £50 from the Samuel Lee Charity.
There are only three conditions which are: the parent must be able to show documentation – council tax, bank statement etc – of full-time residency in Geddington or Newton; the payment will be in the form of a cheque and made out to the mother of the child; and finally, a receipt, with the child’s name, to be returned to the Charity.
To claim this payment, contact Pam or any Trustee (see below).

Anual Cryptic Quiz
The ever-popular Annual Cryptic Quiz will be available from November. Our treasurer, Anne Clay, has once again worked her magic and produced the 3rd recycled quiz, titled:
The 2025-26 Castles & Stately Homes of England Cryptic Quiz.
These will be available from The Star Inn, Bridge Street NN14 1AD, The Café Oak, Queen Street NN14 1AZ, Anne Clay 11 New Road NN14 1AT or me, Pam Hopkins, 9 Grafton Road NN14 1AJ. Post codes are included, in case any past quizzers from outside the village are still interested in enjoying quizzes from John Sutton’s library of Cryptic Quizzes, albeit a cleverly recycled pair.
We are very grateful to The Star Inn for its sponsorship of the prizes (£50 in total), making it well worth entering! Also, our thanks to the Kettering Buccleuch Academy for all the printing. And lastly, but just as important, Café Oak and The Star Inn for having the quizzes on sale in their premises. The Charity is also extremely grateful to its treasurer, Anne Clay, for her work in producing this quiz. Her only sadness is that she can no longer take part in it, normally with good results!
Christmas Distribution
The Charity’s Christmas distribution to those residents over the age of 75 will be carried out in mid-December again. If you didn’t receive one last year, contact Pam or any Trustee (see below).
Help for Residents
The Charity also has funds available for residents of Geddington and Newton. They may not be large, but a little help can make all the difference at a critical moment.
- Are you a student who needs equipment for your apprenticeship?
- A parent whose child would like to go on a school trip?
- A householder who needs a new appliance?
- Or facing one of the many other challenges of modern life where finances just won’t stretch far enough?

A Community Fund for the Parish of Geddington & Newton
