The village Knitting Club has reached a remarkable milestone—six years of bringing people together through a shared love of knitting and conversation.

It took a while, but we finally got our minds around the fact that the Knitting Cub had been going for 6 years this month – March. Back in 2019, the Cafe was run by Bernie with amongst others, Bev. Fast forward 6 years and the Cafe is now run by students, albeit those from Youth Works, and Cindy Wrighting, and still having help from Bev’s skills!

When Nicky Brice moved to the village in 2019, she saw knitting as a perfect way to meet new people while sharing her skills. Jean and Pam enthusiastically embraced the idea, and together, they founded the Knitting Club.

Unlike most clubs, it does not have a chairman, secretary or treasurer. What it does have are those residents who are happy to help others and have the time to do so. Amongst many projects over the years, the club has supplied blankets for retirement homes, blankets for new-born babies, initiated the Remembrance Day poppy displays, supported the Church’s Christmas Tree Festival and supported the village fetes.

10am on Friday 7 March 2025, saw 15 of the Club’s members meeting as usual in the Cafe Oak, the difference being that, by previous arrangement, Cindy had supplied a delicious sponge cake with 6 candles on it.
