Personal Information

When Ernest was born and baptised in Geddington in 1896 his father Charles was described as a carrier and the family lived in Wood Street. Ernest’s father also took his civic duties seriously and was a member of the relatively new Parish Council.
Three Rawson brothers joined the war effort, but Ernest was one of a relative few to join the Royal Flying Corps which eventually became the Royal Air Force we know today. He enlisted in 1915. In 1917 he was stationed out in Salonika, Greece and was accidentally killed when the automatic gun of a plane was set off. It is reported that the shots passed through his head. Death was instantaneous.
